Katy Perry, ‘Hunger Games’ among People’s Choice winners

The 39th Annual People’s Choice Awards were held tonight in Los Angeles on CBS, and the top winners included “The Hunger Games,” which won Favorite Movie and Favorite Action Movie along with Jennifer Lawrence as Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Face of Heroism.

Robert Downey Jr. was named Favorite Movie Actor, and Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler won awards for comic movie acting. Young stars Emma Watson and Zac Efron won awards for dramatic acting.

Hosted by “The Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco, the People’s Choice Awards honor the best in film, TV, and music as voted by fans through online voting.

In a battle of the boy-bands, The Wanted defeated One Direction for Favorite Breakout Artist, but it was One Direction who prevailed in the race for Favorite Song for their ubiquitous hit “What Makes You Beautiful.” They also won Favorite Album for “Up All Night.”

Meanwhile, Katy Perry prevailed as Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Pop Artist, and her “Part of Me” was the Favorite Music Video. Maroon 5 claimed Favorite Band. Jason Mraz won Favorite Male Artist.

Grey’s Anatomy” was the Favorite TV Drama, while its star Ellen Pompeo was awarded Favorite Dramatic TV Actress. Nathan Fillion was named Favorite Dramatic TV Actor for the second year in a row, while his series, “Castle,” won TV Crime Drama.

Glee” stars Lea Michele and Chris Colfer won Favorite Comedic TV Actress and Actor, though the series lost out to top-rated “Big Bang Theory” for Favorite Network TV Comedy.

And though “Twilight” might have the most vocal haters — “Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2” is the top nominee at the Razzies — their fans, the “Twihards,” were named Favorite Movie Fan Following.
