‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Good Wife’ likely to clean up at Emmy nominations for drama

Breaking Bad” and “Homeland” are expected to do well at the Emmy nominations according to the combined predictions of our experts, editors, and more than a thousand users who logged predictions at Gold Derby. Both shows will receive nominations for Best Drama Series as well as four acting bids apiece. “Homeland” was the surprise winner of the top category last year, but “Bad” is favored to win this time around.

But “The Good Wife” is also poised to receive multiple nominations. Though the CBS legal drama is not ranked by our predictors among likely contenders for Best Drama, it is expected to sweep the acting categories with eight nominations, thanks mostly to its prestigious guest actors, including previous Emmy winners Michael J. Fox, Stockard Channing, and Martha Plimpton.

Downton Abbey” and “Mad Men” are both predicted to return to the Drama Series race, but both shows will likely lose ground in the acting categories. They earned six acting bids apiece in 2012, and this year are forecast to pick up three.

Rounding out the Drama Series race will be two-time previous nominee “Game of Thrones” and rookie contender “House of Cards.”
