‘American Idol’ predictions: Jena Irene will be sixth woman to win

With Season 13 of “American Idol” winding down next week, can 17-year-old rocker chick Jena Irene beat out the two remaining boys to become only the sixth female “Idol” champion in the 13-year history of the show? (Make your own predictions by clicking here.)

She would join these five women who won in years past: Kelly Clarkson (Season 1), Fantasia Barrino (Season 3), Carrie Underwood (Season 4), Jordin Sparks (Season 6) and Candice Glover (Season 12).

With only two weeks left in the competition, Jena now has the best chance to win the season according to Gold Derby’s exclusive predictions, with odds of 8/13.

Second place goes to frequent frontrunner Caleb Johnson with 5/2 odds of winning, followed by Alex Preston with 17/2 odds of winning.

Ironically, neither Caleb nor Alex have been in America’s bottom two or three yet, while Jena did place in the bottom once back in Top 12 Week. Since that time, she’s continued to impress the judges and America on a weekly basis, so perhaps her poor showing during Top 12 Week was just a fluke?
