‘American Idol’ predictions: Caleb Johnson jumps to first, Sam Woolf drops to second

For the first time, Sam Woolf (above, right) has been dethroned as your #1 choice to win “American Idolaccording to Gold Derby’s racetrack odds. He dropped down to second, and now has odds of 10/3 to win the 13th season of this Fox staple.

Taking Woolf’s place atop our chart is Caleb Johnson (above, left), who jumped up two spots from last week and now enjoys leading odds of 13/10 to be named America’s choice.

Jena Irene and Majesty Rose are tied for third with odds of 11/2. See where all the contestants rank according to our users’ predictions here.

Woolf’s waning momentum is thanks to America putting him in their bottom three last Thursday during “Songs from the Cinema” week. He crooned “Come Together” by the Beatles and the judges gave him mixed reviews, with Harry Connick Jr. concluding, “I think it was an average performance, but I think you’re on the way.”

Even though it was Ben Briley who was sent home, Woolf should be worried going forward having received such a low vote count despite his frontrunner status.

Conversely, Johnson was universally praised last week for his haunting yet powerful rendition of Adele‘s “Skyfall.” Connick said, “You’re going to be very hard to beat,” while Jennifer Lopez was left momentarily speechless. (Watch Caleb’s performance below.)
