Creative Arts Emmy videos: Bob Newhart (‘Big Bang’) and Reg E. Cathey (‘House of Cards’)

At last weekend’s Creative Arts ceremony (which you can watch this Sunday on FXM), Gold Derby chatted with two of the night’s guest acting nominees: Comedy legend Bob Newhart (“The Big Bang Theory“) and first-time nominee Reg E. Cathey (“House of Cards“). (Watch the full red carpet interviews below.)

Both men wound up losing their categories throughout the evening, with Newhart losing to Jimmy Fallon (“Saturday Night Live“) and Cathey bested by Joe Morton (“Scandal“).

Newhart was back in the same Comedy Guest Actor race where he won his first-ever Emmy last year after six previous nominations. Though Newhart’s character Professor Proton died last season on “The Big Bang Theory,” he warns us to not count out more guest spots. “You never know about him. He may just show up,” he hinted.

Cathey claimed his first nomination for Netflix’s “House of Cards” in the Drama Guest Actor race. He admitted to us that he was actually rooting for someone other than himself in his category, his friend and eventual winner Morton. “I did my first play professionally at a drama school with Joe, so I’m really looking forward to seeing Joe. Whoever wins it’s great. Doesn’t matter.”
