How did TV dramas fare at guild awards?

Just 12 of the 40 dramas series in contention for the 14 different guild awards prevailed this winter. (The full list is at the bottom of this post).

Are any of these victories harbingers for this summer’s Emmy Awards? Not really. While the PGA and CSA follow the Emmy eligibility period of June to May, the rest operate using the calendar year.Be sure to vote for what you think will win Best Drama Series using our easy drag-and-drop menu at the bottom of this post.

Whereas three trophies on the comedy side went to two shows — “30 Rock” and “The Office” — no longer eligible at the Emmys, all of the winning dramas could contend at these top TV kudos.

As in the nominations, “Game of Thrones” and the final season of “Breaking Bad” were the most successful.

Reigning drama series Emmy champ “Breaking Bad” won at least one award from seven of the 14 guilds. And the single episode most celebrated by the guilds was its series finale “Felina,” which won  awards for directing, editing and sound.

“Game of Thrones” scored the most trophies from a single guild with three wins for visual effects; two of those came for the episode “The Climb” while the third was for the season premiere “Valar Dohaeris,” which also won cinematography. Both of those episodes already competed at the last Emmys, where the latter won visual effects.

The biggest loser at the guild awards was the fourth season of “Boardwalk Empire,” which won just one of its 10 bids, for makeup.

Homeland” won just two of 11 guild nominations this year, down from five of 16 last year.

“Mad Men,” which won the Emmy for best drama four times in a row from 2008 to 2011, scored just four guild nominations this year and won only one (its first-ever bid for camera operation).

“The Good Wife” lost all five of its races.
