C.J. Harris on ‘American Idol’: My peak moments — ‘Gravity’ and mom (exclusive video)

Looking back over his performances on “American Idol,” exiting contestant C.J. Harris tells Gold Derby (in the webcam chat below) that two were his best. “I think the Marshall Tucker Band ‘Can’t You See’ worked really good for me and ‘Gravity’ by John Mayer. I think those two are probably my strongest performances.

“I was hoping to get further down in the competition and do more things that fit my voice, but, unfortunately, I didn’t get to,” he adds. “I would’ve done some Gary Clark Jr., Dobie Gray, Bill Withers — that old soul music that really fits me.”

Aside from music moments, Harris says how happy it was to have his family join him at the telecast. ” Me and my mom and my sister — we’ve been through a lot as a family. For me to make it that far and for my mom being able to come out on that stage is just something that you dream about. It was definitely a big moment for me. And to have my son in the audience — it was really huge for me.
