According to Gold Derby’s racetrack odds, four of last year’s six Emmy nominees for Best Comedy Series are certain to return when bids are unveiled on Thursday, July 10: “Modern Family,” “Veep,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “Louie.” But what other two contenders will make the list? Will “Girls” return or will it be bumped by “Orange is the New Black,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” or “Silicon Valley“?
In the video below (also audio podcast option), Gold Derby editors Tom O’Neil, Paul Sheehan (photo above), Chris Beachum and Daniel Montgomery come out swinging to defend their clashing (and sometimes brilliant, sometimes ridiculous) predix in the top comedy races: best series plus lead and supporting actor and actress. They do not at all agree about the fate of Robin Williams (“The Crazy Ones“), Thomas Middleditch (“Silicon Valley”) or Johnny Galecki (“The Big Bang Theory”) in the battle over Best Comedy Actor.
They do concur that Taylor Schilling (“Orange is the New Black“) will be nominated for Best Comedy Actress, but who’ll get the sixth slot in that category: Mindy Kaling (“The Mindy Project“) or Anna Faris (“Mom“)?
