Watch: Billy Bob Thornton secretly loves playing that sly devil in ‘Fargo’

“Anytime you play a … ruthless guy, you always want some other aspect of their personality,” said Billy Bob Thornton of his villainous role in FX’s anthology “Fargo,” which had its New York City premiere on Wednesday. “What attracted me to this character is his sort of dark sense of humor and irony. That’s what I really loved about it, and he’s definitely got that.”

In just the first episode of the 10-hour miniseries, his character, Lorne Malvo, murders, manipulates, and intimidates, while also turning the life of a milquetoast insurance salesman (Martin Freeman) on its head. The anthology series, a spin-off from the Coen brothers’ 1996 Oscar-winner, starts April 15.
