News Nuggets: Will former Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais heckle Tina Fey, Amy Poehler?

Comedian and actor Ricky Gervais is returning to the Golden Globes next month, but not as the host. That job will remain for a third time with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Gervais is back this time as a nominee for Best TV Comedy Actor on the Netflix show “Derek.” During his three times as the emcee, he offered up lots of stinging (some said too mean) barbs about the Hollywood stars in the room. He says he is fully prepared to be the target of Fey and Poehler: “I’m going to heckle back. I’m taking on a microphone to have control of the big speaker system so that it’s a fair fight. As long as they don’t actually kill me, I’m ready for anything.” The Golden Globes will be live January 11 on NBC. Variety

Last year was the Beatles; this time it’s Stevie Wonder. CBS will air “Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life – An All-Star Grammy Salute” on February 16. The special will tape two days after the Grammy Awards with many of the same artists taking the stage to sing the 25-time Grammy winner’s songs. Last year’s similar Beatles special garnered 20 million viewers and an Emmy for Best Music Direction (Don Was). The Wrap

A new box office reports analyzes all of this year’s Golden Globe film nominees, and the news shows that none of the 10 nominees for Best Picture (drama or comedy) have made $100 million this year. This is far different than last year with such popular films as “Gravity,” “Captain Phillips,” and “American Hustle,” Eight of the 10 in 2014 have actually made less that $25 million. Oscar producers are probably hoping “Interstellar” ($166.8 million) and “Gone Girl” ($164.4 million) make the cut. BoxOfficeGuru
