‘Into the Woods’ is Oscars frontrunner for both costume and production design

We are predicting that the screen version of the Tony-winning tuner “Into the Woods” will take home at least two Oscars — Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. One viewing of the new behind-the-scenes video posted at the bottom of the post is worth a thousand of my words. But do let me tell you a little about the talented folks who toiled away on this lavish production.

The lavish costumes are by Colleen Atwood who won two of her three Oscars for previous collaborations with “Into the Woods” helmer Rob Marshall on “Chicago” and “Memoirs of a Geisha.” She also won for her whimsical work on “Alice in Wonderland” and reaped bids for “Little Women,” “Beloved,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “Nine,” and “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

The fanciful production was designed by Oscar champ Dennis Gassner (“Bugsy”) who has reaped four nominations to date. And set decoration was by three-time Oscar nominee Anna Pinnock who shared one of those bids (“The Golden Compass”) with Gassner.
