At the upcoming Billboard Music Awards on May 18, Justin Timberlake has 11 nominations for his two-part album “The 20/20 Experience” while Katy Perry and hip-hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis contend in 10 races apiece and one-time Disney star Miley Cyrus, who hasn’t enjoyed much awards success as of late, has nine nods.
They all contend for Top Artist as do three-time nominee Bruno Mars and recent Grammy champs Imagine Dragons who reaped a leading 12 bids along with newcomer Lorde. (Cast your ballot for Top Artist at the bottom of this post.)
While Lorde didn’t make the cut for the big prize, she has a dozen nominations for these awards which are based on radio play and record sales over the past year. The teenage import from New Zealand dominated the airwaves with her hit tune “Royals.”
Last year, these kudos introduced the Milestone Award last year to honor musical ingenuity and innovation as decided on by a popular vote. However, the winner, Justin Bieber, was booed by those in attendance.
The kudocast chock full of musical performances will air on ABC live from Las Vegas on Sunday, May 18.
