“Bates Motel” is an origin story, exploring the teenage years of one of pop culture’s most famous killers: Norman Bates from Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic 1960 film “Psycho.” “Bates Motel” moves the action to present day and follows the lives of Norman (Freddie Highmore) and his overprotective mother Norma (Vera Farmiga) as they move to White Pine Bay, Oregon, following the death of Norman’s abusive father. (Viewers learned in season one that it was Norman who killed his father, while in a dissociative state.)
