A transgender actress and LGBT rights activist, Cox plays Sophia Burset, who is in prison for credit card fraud and fighting for the medication she needs to maintain her gender transition. For her performance she is nominated for a Critics’ Choice TV Award for Best Comedy Supporting Actress and is up for consideration at the Emmys for Best Comedy Guest Actress.

Following her breakthrough success in “Orange,” Cox made history by appearing on the cover of Time magazine for a story about advances in transgender rights; she was the first transgender person ever to land a Time cover. She also recently received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award from GLAAD for promoting equality.
