Emmy predictions slugfest: I’m ditching Matthew McConaughey for Bryan Cranston!

Yeah, yeah, this seems crazy – dropping the King of All Hollywood Kudos Matthew McConaughey (“True Detective“) for Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad“) as my prediction in this Emmy home s-t-r-e-t-c-h.

McConaughey not only swept Oscars, Golden Globes and SAG Awards earlier this year for “Dallas Buyer’s Club,” but he continued his march, undefeated, through the recent Critics Choice TV Awards and Television Critics Association Awards for “True Detective.”

Cranston, by contrast, lost his last two turns at Emmy bat, even getting trounced by Jeff Daniels (“The Newsroom”) last year when “Breaking Bad” swept up everything else. So … doesn’t that mean he’s weak?

No. Cranston proved his muscle in this category by romping three years in a row (2008-2010). Since then, he submitted good episodes to Emmy judges, but nothing at all like the masterpiece that is “Ozymandias” – possibly the greatest episode of one of TV’s greatest series ever, and one that features the crowning performance of Cranston’s impressive career.

To all you naysayers, I say: Bet against it if you dare!
