Can any comedy series stop ‘Modern Family’ from winning Emmy #5?

Can any show knock “Modern Family” from its throne as the reigning four-time Best Comedy Series champ at the Emmys?

Nine of our 13 Experts are predicting this ABC hit comedy to prevail yet again, thus tying the record of all-time champ “Frasier,” which owned this award for for five years running beginning in 1994. Currently, “Modern Family” shares second place with “All in the Family” and “Cheers,” though neither of those legendary laffers won their four Emmys consecutively.

A trio of our Emmyologists — Steve Pond (The Wrap), Lynette Rice (EW) and Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood) — expect the third season of “Veep” to take the top prize. So do four of our Top 24 Users (from last year’s pool of Emmy prognosticators) and about 15% of all Users. That is enough to put the show in second place with odds of 4/1.

One Expert — Ken Tucker — is going out on a limb for “The Big Bang Theory.” He is predicting this ratings juggernaut to finally prevail after three losses, much as was the case with “Friends” back in 2002. About 10% of our Users are also behind this bid, which has odds of 6/1.

However, our six Editors remain united behind “Modern Family” as are 15 of the Top 24 and about half of all Users. All that support translates into leading odds of 21/10.

Two of the Top 24 and about 10% of all Users favor freshman series “Orange is the New Black“; the second season just started streaming on Netflix.

A smattering of Users are predicting that “Louie” will prevail with its second bid while a handful expect Golden Globes champ “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” to repeat here.
