‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire,’ Jennifer Lawrence top MTV Movie Awards winners

As we predicted, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” was the big winner at the MTV Movie Awards, taking Best Movie, Best Female Performance (Jennifer Lawrence), and Best Male Performance (Josh Hutcherson). The first “Hunger Games” movie was nominated two years ago but lost the top prize to the penultimate “Twilight” film, “Breaking Dawn, Part 1.”

“The Hunger Games” didn’t sweep, however. Lawrence, Hutcherson, and Sam Claflin lost Best Fight to surprise winners Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly in “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” Lawrence also lost Favorite Character to fellow young-adult franchise star Shailene Woodley in “Divergent.”

Multiple-nominee “The Wolf of Wall Street” was also a winner. Jonah Hill may have lost the Supporting Actor Oscar to Jared Leto, but he won Best Comedic Performance for his scene-stealing turn.

Meanwhile, Leto added another prize to his mantel, taking Best On-Screen Transformation for his role as a transgender woman in “Dallas Buyers Club.”

Will Poulter won Best Breakthrough Performance for his role in the comedy “We’re the Millers.” He won a similar fan-voted honor — BAFTA’s Rising Star Award — earlier this year. He also won Best Kiss along with co-stars Emma Roberts and Jennifer Aniston.

Mila Kunis was the surprise winner of Best Villain for “Oz the Great and Powerful“; as she pointed out in her acceptance speech, she was the only woman nominated in the category.

Zac Efron won Best Shirtless Performance for “That Awkward Moment” and flaunted his winning torso when he accepted the prize on-stage.
