Hundreds of Users predict Best Picture Oscar: ‘Boyhood’ & ‘Birdman’ on the rise

More than 800 users are currently predicting the Oscars, and they agree with our experts that “Boyhood” is the current frontrunner for Best Picture, but what a difference a month makes. This time in August, users were giving the advantage to the tragic Olympic drama “Foxcatcher,” which has now slipped to second place. But as we’ve seen in years past, there’s still plenty of time for an underdog to make up ground.

Editors split on Best Actor Oscar: Steve Carell, Michael Keaton, or … Joaquin Phoenix?

Case in point: “Boyhood” isn’t the only film picking up steam. After getting rave reviews in Venice and Telluride, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu‘s showbiz comedy “Birdman” is now in fourth place in our users’ odds, up from seventh place last month. The film has shot all the way up to second place in our experts’ predictions, as we reported here.

Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie‘s World War II drama “Unbroken” is holding steady in third place.

Our users’ predictions are very similar to our overall odds, which combine our users’ rankings with those of our experts, editors, and top 24 users. They differ primarily in that the rest of our predictors have higher expectations for “Unbroken,” boosting it to second place overall behind “Boyhood.”
