30 Oscar Experts divided evenly over Original Screenplay: ‘American Hustle’ vs. ‘Her’

The Original Screenplay race is the closest one at this year’s Oscars according to our 30 Experts. Half of them are predicting that “American Hustle” will prevail while the other 15 favor “Her.” That split gives each odds of 11/10

The script for “American Hustle” was co-written by Best Director nominee David O. Russell who contended over on the adapted side last year for “Silver Linings Playbook.” It won the BAFTA but “Her” had been snubbed there.

While Spike Jonze was overlooked for his direction of “Her,” he is more likely to win for the film’s script than its nominated tune “The Moon Song,” which he co-wrote with performer Karen O. He has already claimed the Critics’ Choice, Golden Globe and WGA awards

Scripts from first-time nominees are tied for third with odds of 50/1 each: “Dallas Buyers Club” from the team of Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack and Bob Nelson‘s “Nebraska.”

Rounding out the race at odds of 100/1 is three-time category champ Woody Allen for his screenplay of “Blue Jasmine.”
