Notice the charts above that reveal the Oscar rankings of Gold Derby’s Experts in the all-important Best Actress race. On the left are the current predictions from Sept. 14, in the middle are their predictions from Sept. 10 and on the right are their predictions from two weeks ago (Sept. 1).
While Reese Witherspoon (“Wild“) currently holds onto her #1 position at the top of the Experts’ leaderboard, there’s a dramatic upheaval taking place in that #2 position, as Julianne Moore (“Still Alice“) has sky-rocketed past Amy Adams (“Big Eyes“) since news broke on Sept. 10 that Sony Pictures Classics will launch Moore’s “Still Alice” into this derby.
While that’s great news for four-time Oscar also-ran Moore, it’s devastating news for five-time loser Adams, who back on Sept. 1 was actually the Experts’ pick to win her very first Oscar.
Six Experts out of 16 believe Witherspoon will win a bookend Best Actress prize to compliment her 2005 victory for “Walk the Line”: Edward Douglas (Comingsoon), Thom Geier (Entertainment Weekly), Steve Pond (TheWrap), Keith Simanton (IMDB), Jeffrey Wells (Hollywood-Elsewhere) and Susan Wloszczyna (RogerEbert.com).
