First look: FX’s mysterious press kit for new season of ‘The Americans’

All around the country, TV journalists this week are receiving these nondescript manila envelopes at their doorsteps bound with black and red string. Enclosed within the dossier are redacted documents profiling the major players (actors and production staff) as well as the first five episodes of FX’s hit spy drama “The Americans.”

It’s a juicy and effective way for the network to remind those in the industry that the second season of “The Americans” premieres Feb. 26 on FX.

All of the major characters are back for another round of Russian espionage, including stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as well as featured players Noah Emmerich and Richard Thomas.

Missing from the press kit is any mention of last year’s guest star standout Margo Martindale, though Mardinale confirmed to Gold Derby during a December video chat that she did shoot some scenes for the new season.

The five episodes on the DVD screener are:

2.01 “Comrades” (airing Feb. 26)

2.02 “Cardinal” (March 5)

2.03 “The Walk In” (March 12)

2.04 “A Little Night Music” (March 19) and

2.05 “The Deal” (March 26).

Season one of “The Americans” was predicted to nab a handful of Emmy nominations last year, but only netted two noms: Drama Guest Actress for Martindale (she lost to Carrie Preston of “The Good Wife“) and Original Main Title Theme Music (it lost to “Da Vinci’s Demons“).

Check out more photos of the press kit below. Do these get you excited for the new batch of episodes?
