Aladdin” earned five Tony nominations, including a Best Musical bid. This adaptation of the hit 1992 Disney cartoon featured the Oscar-winning “A Whole New World” by Alan Menken and Tim Rice

Menken, who has won eight Oscars in all, had initially worked on the film’s score with Howard Ashman who died in 1991. Rice stepped in and songs with lyrics by both men can be heard in this version as well as new numbers written by Menken and book writer Chad Beguelin
