‘The Walking Dead’ shockers: Did you predict the deaths of Bob and … ?

The ever-shrinking cast of “The Walking Dead” went through another major shift Sunday night as we said goodbye to not one, but two popular supporting characters. Did YOU predict the fates of either of this week’s dearly departed in our “Walking Dead” prediction contest? (Scroll down to see the contest results.)

First up on the chopping block was poor Bob Stookey (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.), whose fate was sealed when he revealed he’d been bitten by a walker in the previous episode. After saying tearful goodbyes to all of his friends, including Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Bob ultimately succumbed to his wound and was given a gracious knife-to-temple death by Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman) before he could turn into a walker.

Psst: Here’s how to predict reality TV shows and win bragging rights AND prizes!

The second character to meet the grim reaper this week was Gareth (Andrew J. West), who began the episode chomping on Bob’s zombie-infested leg and ended the hour sliced to bits by Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) machete. At least Gareth got to enjoy one final meal before his bloody execution, right?

Congratulations to our site user seano25, who reaped the most points this week (4,000) on our Episode 3 leaderboard. This User correctly predicted three questions:

1.) Bob would die amongst the recurring cast

2.) No one would die from our list of main characters

3.) Rick would fire his gun this episode

While seano25 earns bragging rights for this specific episode, the overall season leader so far is Ryan Lapierre. His savvy predictions over the first three episodes have netted him 10,318 points, giving Lapierre the highest overall combined score on our Season 5 leaderboard.

According to Gold Derby’s exclusive racetrack odds, Gareth’s death was a huge shocker as he came in second-to-last place when we asked our users which recurring character would be killed off in Episode 3. Gareth had 12/1 odds to die, which put him in eighth place in our overall rankings just ahead of Tyreese who had the lowest overall odds.

Gutsy ‘The Voice’ prediction: ‘Raw’ Luke Wade will win this season with his ‘pure emotion’

And what about Bob’s odds? Well, you called it. The majority of our users thought that Bob would die this week, giving him leading 10/3 odds.

Since Gareth and Bob are no longer with us, we’ve added two new supporting players to our charts to keep things fresh and exciting: Baby Judith and Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam).

To vote for who think will be killed off next on “Walking Dead,” drag characters over from the left to the right and arrange them in your predicted order. For example, if you think Rick will be killed off next, make sure you put him in first place. ‘The Amazing Race’ shocker: ‘Survivor’ stars Keith & Whitney eliminated

Every time someone logs their predictions, the racetrack odds of the contestants are automatically updated. If the majority of users think Rick will die, that means he’ll have the best odds and will go to the front of the pack. Conversely, the characters who don’t receive many votes have the worst odds and will go to the bottom of the pile.

The standard bet for each question is 100 points, which are wagered against the odds you locked in when you saved your predictions. However, for each TV episode you are given one special 200 point bet that you can use strategically to gain more points.

Here’s how racetrack odds work: If you bet 100 on something that has 50/1 odds and you end up being correct, you will receive 50 x 100 points, which equals 5,000 points. You’ll also get your original 100 points back, for a total of 5,100 points.
