AMA predictions: Taylor Swift will sweep with 6 wins, the Weeknd will take 3

taylor swift the weeknd amas american music awards

Taylor Swift is expected to dominate the American Music Awards on Sunday night according to the combined predictions of our Editors, Top 24 Users (at the last AMAs we predicted) and All Users. She’s nominated six times and is forecast to make a clean sweep of her categories.

Adele’s new album ’25’: Do critics think it’s Grammy-worthy?

Swift will win Artist of the Year for the fourth time (she’s never lost when nominated), as well as Song of the Year (“Blank Space“), Collaboration of the Year (“Bad Blood,” with Kendrick Lamar), Adult Contemporary Artist, Pop/Rock Female Artist and Pop/Rock Album (“1989“). It’s lucky for the rest of this year’s field that she didn’t decide to record an R&B or rap album too, or no other artists would stand a chance.

Despite Swift’s sweep, The Weeknd will still manage three victories of his own out of his five nominations. He won’t take Artist of the Year – he was among the top 10 nominees but didn’t make the cut when the AMAs narrowed that down to the final five – but we’re expecting him to take every category where he doesn’t have to face Swift: New Artist of the Year, Soul/R&B Male Artist and Soul/R&B Album (“Beauty Behind the Madness“).

Only two others will win multiple prizes over the weekend. Nicki Minaj gets best odds in the races for Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Rap/Hip-Hop Album (“The Pinkprint“), while Florida Georgia Line will be awarded prizes for Country Duo or Group and Country Album (“Anything Goes“).

All other winners will be left with one apiece: One Direction (Pop/Rock Duo or Group), Ed Sheeran (Pop/Rock Male Artist), Luke Bryan (Country Male Artist), Carrie Underwood (Country Female Artist), Beyonce (Soul/R&B Female Artist), Fall Out Boy (Alternative Rock Artist), Enrique Iglesias (Latin Artist), Casting Crowns (Contemporary Inspirational Artist) and Calvin Harris (Electronic Dance Music Artist).

Lastly, “Pitch Perfect 2” gets the slight edge in a very close race for Soundtrack Album against “Empire” and “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
