‘American Idol’ bombshell: Our contest champ ditches Clark Beckham, predicts Jax to win

“I was originally pulling for Clark Beckham, but he really needs to show more than just vocals, which is why Jax excels over everyone else,” says Gold Derby’s latest “American Idol” contest champ Dylan Randazzo, who won $100 predicting the Top 6 Week episode. Randazzo is 19 years old and hails from Cranford, NJ, where he’s a student. As for why he thinks Jax has the edge to win over Gold Derby frontrunner Clark, he explains, “Not only is she a local of New Jersey, but she always performs like a true artist. Even her worst performances are great. I’m pulling for Jax … but don’t count out Rayvon Owen or Tyanna Jones to sneak in and make a run.”

Randazzo won $100 predicting last week’s episode contest for being the only person to reap perfect 100% accuracy and a 782 point score. His winning predictions were that Quentin Alexander would be eliminated, that Rayvon would earn the Idol Fan Save (for the fourth week in a row), that Jennifer Lopez would not have “goosies,” that Harry Connick Jr. would not mention a singer’s “intonation” and that Keith Urban would not give a standing ovation.

How did Randazzo know Quentin would get the boot and that Rayvon would earn the final Idol Fan Save of the season? “Quentin had a weak night last week, and his feud with Harry also added to the reason why I chose him to be the next one eliminated. I figured that Rayvon would continue being in the sing-off, but he has been performing strong lately, so I figured he’d get the Save yet again. It also makes for a great underdog story.”

As for his other predictions, Randazzo tells us, “I said that there would be no standing ovations, goosies or tonality comments because I figured I’d take a gamble and go against what usually happens.” And he’s onto something here, as this is where the strategy — and fun — comes into play at Gold Derby when making your weekly predictions.

Of the Final 5, Randazzo’s current rankings are that Jax will win, that Clark will come in second place, that Tyanna will rank third, that Nick Fradiani will be fourth and that Rayvon will come in fifth place. “The season has a strong crop of artists, and I think anyone could win,” Randazzo concludes.

‘American Idol’ predictions: Clark Beckham overwhelming favorite to win

Where do you fall on our overall Season 14 leaderboard?

For the entire season so far, JB is still in first place with 63% prediction accuracy. As for his current predictions, JB tells us, “Clark is still far and away the frontrunner. He has it in the bag. At this point, it still feels like it’s going to be a Clark vs. Jax finale. Now, the race is for third and anyone could get there. I’d say Nick rose to third place for the first time after last week (not sure he can stay there).”

Next up on our leaderboard is Phoenix in second place with 58% accuracy, and then there’s a tie for third place with both Benutty and Denton at 54%. Click here to see where you score on our overall season leaderboard.

Can YOU beat these frontrunners to win our prizes? Then be sure to take part in our “American Idol” prediction contest. We’re giving away $100 Amazon gift certificates to our weekly winners plus at season’s end. The deadline for each episode is Wednesday at 5 p.m. PT.

Our current overall leader JB correctly predicted Quentin’s ouster this week and Qaasim Middleton‘s exit in Top 8 Week. However, he missed calling Joey Cook‘s elimination last week (see complete predix), proving that it’s possible to do well in our contests without getting everything right.

Remember that coming out on top doesn’t just mean answering that week’s questions correctly. You also have to use your three big bets (500 points and two of 200 points) strategically to score the most game points. If you bet on a longshot who pulls off an upset, you can really rack up the points, so don’t take them for granted.

To vote for who think will go home next on “American Idol,” drag contestants over from the left to the right and arrange them in your predicted order. For example, if you think Nick will be eliminated, make sure you put him in first place.
