One year ago, Derrick Levasseur won Season 16 of “Big Brother” after absolutely dominating the game for 97 days. As the current season nears its end, we sat down with Derrick to chat about how he pulled off the win and what he thinks of the current group of houseguests. “It has sunk in for the most part,” Derrick admits about his victory. “But there are moments when I’m watching the episodes and watching the houseguests talk about the possibility of winning this show and winning the money, and realizing that I just did that last year. It is surreal.”

“My strategic game was to go in there and try to figure out people as fast as I could. That’s it. It’s about reading people. That’s what I do every day,” Derrick tells Denton Davidson, who won our “Big Brother” contest last year by answering the most questions correct throughout the season. “And like you said, there were some people in there who really did like themselves and I played into that weakness of theirs.”

As for the current season, Derrick addresses the similarities between his game play and a certain emotional houseguest. “As far as the comparison to me and Vanessa Rousso, she definitely is more vocal and more emotional and wears her feelings on her sleeve a little bit more. But it’s working for this season. And one thing I don’t think anyone will argue with is that every season’s different. And depending on the characters in the house, sometimes it just works.”

Also in our chat, Derrick reveals what he thinks of Frankie Grande both in and out of the house, which longshot houseguest could actually win this season, what the infamous “Big Brother” slop really tastes like and so much more. Scroll down to watch our entire Q&A.
