Taylor Swift dominates Billboard Music Awards with eight wins

Taylor Swift swept the Billboard Music Awards, winning eight out of her 14 nominations including Top Artist. She also took Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album (“1989“), Top Streaming Song–Video (“Shake it Off“) and the fan-voted Billboard Chart Achievement Award.

Sam Smith came into the awards with 13 bids, and he won three times: Top New Artist, Top Male Artist and Top Radio Songs Artist.

Iggy Azalea had 12 nominations and also left with three trophies, taking Top Streaming Artist, Top Rap Artst and Top Rap Song (“Fancy“). But she lost the Rap Album race to J. Cole for “2014 Forest Hills Drive.”

Fellow newcomer Meghan Trainor won two top prizes out of her nine bids, both for her breakthrough hit “All About That Bass“: Top Hot 100 Song and Top Digital Song.

Hozier was the Top Rock Artist. His Grammy-nominated hit “Take Me to Church” also earned him Top Rock Song, while Top Rock Album was awarded to Coldplay for “Ghost Stories.”

John Legend prevailed twice for his single “All of Me“: Top Radio Song and Top Streaming Song (Audio). We predicted he would also claim Top R&B Artist, but that prize went to Pharrell Williams.

In addition to R&B Artist, Williams also won Top R&B Album for “GIRL.”

Jason Aldean claimed a pair of awards: Top Country Album (“Old Boots, New Dirt“) and Top Country Song (“Burnin’ It Down”). But he lost the Top Country Artist prize to Florida Georgia Line.

One Direction was named Top Duo or Group and Top Tourist Artist.
