We’re getting down to the wire this season on “Dancing With the Stars.” Monday night’s elimination of singer Andy Grammer leaves us with six contestants, including Alek Skarlatos. Military man Skarlatos, who helped stop a gunman aboard a train bound for Paris in August, was a complete unknown before that event and still far from a household name when he first took the stage in September, but he has exceeded expectations. Can he make it to the finals?
As the competition has gotten tougher, Skarlatos has struggled to keep up in the judges’ scores. He was at the bottom of the leaderboard going into “Halloween Night” and was at the bottom again going into “Icons Night,” but he survived elimination both times, which indicates that the hunky hero has more fan support than we might have anticipated. As of this writing, our readers who have entered our predictions contest are forecasting his ouster yet again. However, he also now ranks third in our predictions for who will win the season, getting odds of 11/1 based on support from 8% of our prediction contest players.
Never underestimate a military hero on “Dancing with the Stars.” Army soldier-turned-actor J.R. Martinez won the mirror ball trophy in season 13, and just last season Noah Galloway finished in the top three despite injuries that greatly limited his range of motion on the dance floor (he lost his left arm and left leg while serving in Iraq). So while Skarlatos may not always have the judges on his side (he has the lowest cumulative total of the remaining six dancers), he may have the rooting factor to keep the fans on his side.
What do you think? Will he be eliminated next Monday night, or will he make it all the way to the finals? Could he even win it all?
