It was a strong week for Gold Derby’s predictions when the “Dancing With the Stars” contestants performed routines inspired by their most memorable years. Our racetrack odds, generated by the combined predictions of our readers, were right two times out of three. Bindi Irwin got the highest score from judges (including the season’s first 10) for an emotional contemporary routine dedicated to her late father Steve Irwin, as 35% of readers anticipated, which gave her odds of 15/8. Gary Busey got the lowest score as 56% of readers expected, which gave him 4/5 odds.

The only outcome we got wrong was the night’s elimination, but we were close. 47% of readers thought Paula Deen would be sent home (10/9 odds), but instead it was Busey, which a still-impressive 40% of readers saw coming (3/2 odds).

Given the overall accuracy of our odds, it’s no surprise that seven contest entrants scored 100% in their predictions for the week: WiltedYouth, Karen Wood, Jeremy, Cordell Martin, Nick Hampton, Ritchie Hunley and Nate. Of those, WiltedYouth had the highest points total (1,603), placing him at the top of our leaderboard. Click the chart below for this week’s complete results:

WiltedYouth earned most of that total by betting 500 points on Busey’s ouster when he had 19/10 odds, resulting in a 950-point payout. He got another 520 points by betting 200 on Irwin’s high score at 13/5 odds.

Keep your point bets in mind making your predictions: coming out on top doesn’t just mean answering the week’s questions correctly. You also have to use your three big bets (one of 500 points and two of 200 points) strategically to score the most game points. If you bet on a long shot who pulls off an upset, you can really rack up the points. As we use those point totals to break ties when more than one user tops our leaderboard with the same number of correct predictions (as happened this week), don’t take them for granted.

On our overall predictions leaderboard for season 21 to date, WiltedYouth rises to a three-way tie for the lead with seven out of 12 correct predictions. Sharing that lead are Avaday and Denton Davidson, who also held the top spot last week.
