Outlander’ heartthrob Sam Heughan skyrockets in Golden Globes predictions

According to exclusive Gold Derby odds that are derived from the predictions made by our Editors (website staff editors), Top 24 Users (the two dozen folks who did the best predicting last year’s nominations) and other Users just like you, “Game of Thrones” currently leads the race for Best Drama Series with 7/2 odds.

This hit HBO drama only contended at the Globes for two of its first four seasons, losing to “Homeland” in 2011 and “The Affair” last year. Surprisingly, the fantasy epic only has one Golden Globe win to its name, for supporting actor Peter Dinklage (2011).

Since Fox’s “Empire” (6/1 odds) is contending for its first time at the Globes, it may have the upper-hand to win as members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association love honoring the hippest, freshest fare.

Recent TV dramas to claim victory on their freshman seasons include “The Affair” (2014), “Homeland” (2011), “Boardwalk Empire” (2010) and “Mad Men” (2007).

And then there’s Starz’ “Outlander,” which seems like the perfect made-for-Globes show. In fourth place at 17/2 odds, this international TV sensation starring Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan ticks a lot of boxes for HFPA members, who love to trumpet new hot stars for their media outlets across the world.

Other top drama series in contention are: “House of Cards” (15/2 odds) for its third season, “Downton Abbey” (11/1 odds) for its penultimate year and “Mr. Robot” (16/1 odds) for its inaugural outing. See up-to-date Golden Globe odds and rankings for this race right here.
