Our ‘Game of Thrones’ top scorer reveals how he got 100% right predicting ‘Hardhome’

“In general I couldn’t see any major characters dying just yet, so I played it safe rather than picking someone random,” reveals this week’s top-scoring “Game of Thrones” user Smor, who did the best at predicting Sunday’s episode, titled “Hardhome.” Can YOU beat this user next week? Smor was one of only four people to reap perfect 100% prediction accuracy while predicting “Hardhome” at Gold Derby, however he took the lead with 1,400 points thanks to locking in the best odds throughout the week. See where you placed in this week’s episode contest.

This user’s winning predictions were that nobody listed in our predictions center would die, that we would see a white walker, that Tyrion would have a drink, that there’d be no full frontal nudity and that zero dragons would appear.

How did Smor do so well? “I try to avoid the previews and even the episode titles to avoid spoilers, but knowing that Jon Snow would be beyond the wall, and with the groundwork laid with Sam giving Jon the the dragonglass daggers, I thought it likely we would see a white walker at least, though I wasn’t expecting a 20-minute battle sequence.”

“Hardhome” was “phenomenal,” Smor admits. “This episode had almost everything a fan could want. Even before the excellent battle sequence, there were many great scenes, most notably with Dany and Tyrion. I’m very excited to see how everything plays out over the final two episodes.”

Does he think it’s good enough to push the show over the edge at the Emmys? “I don’t think ‘Game of Thrones’ will win Best Drama Series this year. I think its best shot is in an acting category, possibly Lena Headey, and undoubtedly it will take home many awards in the technical categories.”

Smor concludes, “There’s still strong competition in Drama Series, particularly with seven series being eligible for the nomination this year. I think its best shot to win Drama Series will be in its final season. I’m backing ‘Mad Men’ to win, but that said, if ‘Game of Thrones’ were to win I would be very happy.”
