Beck pulled off a Grammy shocker by winning Album of the Year for “Morning Phase,” beating Beyonce‘s critically acclaimed self-titled album and Sam Smith‘s “In the Lonely Hour.” Beck also won Best Rock Album.

As expected, Smith won Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, the last two for his breakthrough hit “Stay with Me.” He also won Best Pop Vocal Album for “In the Lonely Hour.”
Beyonce and Jay-Z won Best R&B Performance for “Drunk in Love,” which also won Best R&B Song during the pre-telecast. Including her third win this year for Best Surround Sound Album, that brings Beyonce’s career Grammy total to 20. She is now the second most awarded woman in Grammys history, moving ahead of Aretha Franklin (18) and still trailing country powerhouse Alison Krauss (27).
Despite losing her thre nominations during the pre-telecast, Miranda Lambert won Best Country Album for “Platinum.” It’s only her second career Grammy for the country industry darling.
After surprising during the pre-telecast with his win for Best Urban Contemporary Album (“GIRL“), Pharrell Williams also surprised during the main show, winning Best Pop Solo Performance for a live version of his ubiquitous hit “Happy.” He won a third prize this year: Best Music Video for “Happy.”
