David O. Russell‘s highly anticipated Christmas release “Joy” stars Oscar champ Jennifer Lawrence as a woman who rises from humble beginnings to head her own business empire. From the looks of the first trailer (watch below) Lawrence is taking no prisoners playing the part of a Long Island housewife turned inventor. Along for the ride are Robert De Niro as her supportive father, Edgar Ramirez as her less-than-understanding husband and Bradley Cooper as a home shopping channel exec who believes in her dream.

Golden Globes shakeup: ‘Joy’ will compete for Best Drama Picture

This marks the third collaboration between Lawrence and director Russell. The first was “Silver Linings Playbook,” which won her the Best Actress Oscar in 2012. The next was “American Hustle,” for which she earned another Oscar bid in 2013, this time for Best Supporting Actress. But Russell has yet to win an Oscar despite five nominations as a writer and director of “Silver Linings,” “Hustle” and “The Fighter.”

That could all change this year. As of this writing, Russell leads our predictions for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay (along with co-writer Annie Mumolo) while his film is in second place for Best Picture behind “Spotlight” and Lawrence is third for Best Actress.
