Gold Derby is predicting that HBO’s “Game of Thrones” will finally win the Emmy Award as Best Drama Series next Sunday. Matthew Weiner, creator of four-time champ “Mad Men,” noticed our odds and grills us in a new video chat recorded on the red carpet at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards. He says, “You guys are so sure, and you are especially sure. I am not a gambler, but don’t forget we have won a lot, and that’s not why we’re in it. Whatever happens, happens.”
But Weiner does also add, “I love that Gold Derby exists, and love that people are obsessed with [awards coverage].” When told that the odds are virtually tied between his show and HBO’s fantasy epic, he says, “I’ll take those odds.”

According to exclusive Gold Derby odds, “Game of Thrones” is slightly out front with 10/9 odds but those may improve this week after a record-setting haul of eight trophies on Saturday. The AMC drama “Mad Men” is next at 5/4; if it wins, that would give it the all-time lead of five victories in the top category. The show is currently tied with “Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law,” and “The West Wing” at four each.
Next up on the charts are “House of Cards,” “Orange is the New Black,” and “Better Call Saul,” all tied at 50/1. The final two slots are held by previous winner “Homeland” and “Downton Abbey” at 100/1.
