Oscar voters get DVD screeners of ‘The Revenant,’ ‘Joy,’ ‘The Hateful Eight’ …

On Monday (December 21), Oscar voters received a DVD screener of “The Revenant,” the epic adventure film from last year’s big Oscar champ Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (“Birdman”) that we are predicting will finally win Leonardo DiCaprio an Academy Award. Fox also sent out “Joy,” which reunites Jennifer Lawrence with writer/director David O. Russell, who crafted the film, “Silver Linings Playbook,” that won her an Oscar three years ago.

And those savvy Oscar campaigners at the Weinstein Company just sent out Quentin Tarantino‘s epic Western “The Hateful Eight.” One can only assume that the auteur wants voters to watch his three-hour film in theaters equipped with 70mm projectors that best display the roadshow presentation, complete with overture, intermission and exit music.
