Monday marks the annual luncheon for the Oscar nominees with more than 150 contenders in the 24 categories expected to break bread at the Beverly Hilton. All but four of the 20 acting nominees are expected to attend.
This a key stop on the campaign trail prior to final balloting for the Oscars beginning this Friday (Feb. 6). That is also the day that Directors Guild ballots are due with these precursor prizes handed out 24 hours later. And on Sunday (Feb. 8), the British are coming with the BAFTAs (just hours before the Grammys.)
Already, we have heard from two key guilds — the Producers and the Screen Actors — as well as those of the art directors and film editors. The visual effect wizards weigh in this Wednesday.
Valentine’s Day weekend will be a busy one, with five groups doling out awards: cinematographers, makeup/hairstylists, sound editors, sound mixers and writers. The final guild — the costume designers — doesn’t announce until several hours after Oscar voting closes on Feb. 17.
And, as always, the Indie Spirits are on the Saturday before Oscar Sunday, Feb. 22.
Below, we detail all of these key dates.
