After 10 weeks of live shows, “So You Think You Can Dance” announced a winner on Monday, September 14, and it wasn’t quite what we were expecting. Did you predict the results with us here at Gold Derby? Click here to see where you landed on our leaderboard for the finale.

Though street dancer Jaja Vankova entered the event as our slight favorite to win with 21/20 odds and support from 49% of users, it was Gaby Diaz who pulled off an upset. After a slow start in our predictions, tap specialist Diaz picked up steam after the contest was narrowed to the top 10 dancers, and by the finale, 43% of users were predicting her to be named America’s favorite dancer, giving her 27/20 odds. It turns out they were right.

Vankova was the runner-up, but the show didn’t formally announce a third or fourth place contestant. It simply eliminated Hailee Payne from Team Stage and Virgil Gadson from Team Street before the final head-to-head between Diaz and Vankova. As a result, we’re giving our users credit for picking either Gadson or Payne in third and fourth place position.

A whopping 21 users scored 100% predicting the finale results – myself included – but it was AviChristiaans who finished with the highest point total (4,120), putting him at the top of our predictions leaderboard for the finale. That total includes 600 points for predicting Diaz’s win (users got 200 points for every consecutive week they had been predicting the winner).

But on our overall users’ leaderboard for the season, Michael Jenkins, aka “EmmyLoser,” held on to the top spot, improving to 63% accuracy after 10 weeks. Finishing second was JB with 53%. Brulash82 was third with 50%. John Benutty landed in fourth place with 47%. And last year’s predictions champ for “SYTYCD,” Denton Davidson, finished fifth with 44%.
