‘So You Think You Can Dance’ recap: One expected elimination (Derek Piquette), one surprise (Neptune)

It was bound to happen eventually: after three weeks of predicting the elimination of Derek Piquette on “So You Think You Can Dance,” we were finally right. He was ousted from Team Stage after spending most of the competition among the bottom dancers. But to the surprise of most of our users, Team Street standout Eddie “Neptune” Eskridge joined him on the chopping block.

A whopping 81% of our users bet on Piquette to be sent home, but only 18% of us thought Neptune would go too. We thought Neptune’s teammate Megz Alfonso was much likelier to exit; she did end up in the bottom two, but narrowly escaped.

Our racetrack odds were also wrong forecasting the second bottom dancer on Team Stage. After mixed reviews from the judges last week, 52% of us thought Jim Nowakowski would land at the bottom for the first time this season, but his fans rallied around him and he sailed safely into the top six, leaving Hailee Payne in danger. Could the same thing happen next week? Payne wowed the judges again on Monday night, and Nowakowski again disappointed them, but Nowakowski might be too popular for Payne to overcome.

Despite another tricky night for our predictions, three users scored 100% forecasting the results: Eeric, Michael Toughill and JB. Of those, Eeric had the best points score, putting him at the top of our leaderboard for the night. How did he do it? He got his biggest payout by using his 500-point big bet to predict Payne would be in the bottom but safe on Team Stage. She had 4/1 odds at the time he locked in that pick, which paid off with 2,000 points. He received another 800 points by predicting Neptune’s surprise ouster at 4/1 odds.

That illustrates just how important it is not only to make your predictions but to use your big bets wisely. You can place one bet of 500 points and two of 200 points. If you bet big on a long shot and get it right, that could be the difference between winning and losing our weekly predictions contest.

On our overall leaderboard, EmmyLoser retains the top spot for the season after six weeks of predictions. By answering three out of four questions correctly Monday night, he actually improved his accuracy to 54%, while Denton Davidson, who won our predictions contest last year, is right behind him with 50%, now tied with this week’s perfect scorer JB.

Can you beat them next week? In our “So You Think You Can Dancepredictions center, you get to answer the following questions each week:

Which STAGE dancer will be eliminated?

Which STREET dancer will be eliminated?

Which STAGE dancer will be in the bottom but safe?

Which STREET dancer will be in the bottom but safe?

Who will win ‘So You Think You Can Dance’?

Who do you think SHOULD be eliminated next? Discuss in our forums

At the end of each week, the eligible user with the highest prediction accuracy and most points will win a $100 Amazon gift certificate, so it’s beneficial to keep coming back often and making/updating your predictions.
