There’s nothing more frustrating during a reality competition than witnessing the fall of contestants you admire while watching the rise of others whose appeal baffles you. For instance, I thought “So You Think You Can Dance” hip-hop specialist Ariana Crowder never got her due from viewers before being eliminated just shy of the top 10, even though the judges usually praised her (except this week, when Nigel Lythgoe likened her to “a dead fish on a slab” – not cool, Nigel).
But I actually like all the dancers who did make it through to the top 10 on Monday night. Do you agree? Of the remaining contenders, an impressive six have never been in danger when viewer votes were counted: Jim Nowakowski, Hailee Payne, Gaby Diaz, Megz Alfonso, Virgil Gadson and Jaja Vankova. Have they deserved to sail through the competition as smoothly as they have?
Vankova is currently the frontrunner according to our users’ predictions. As of this writing, 31% think she’ll win this season, giving her 9/4 odds. She’s followed by Nowakowski (7/2 odds), Gadson (11/2 odds), Diaz (13/2 odds) and Eddie “Neptune” Eskridge (16/1 odds). Are they really the best of the best?
