“The thing that bummed me out about my edit in the beginning was that they didn’t show the strategic side of my game,” says the latest “Survivor: Second Chance” castoff Stephen Fishbach to Gold Derby following his elimination. “Yes, I was awkward, but I was also hustling to make alliances. I went up to Jeremy Collins on day two and said we need to work together or we’re both gonna be out. I don’t mind looking like a goofball, but I was also playing the game and I think that people didn’t get to see that at all.”

According to exclusive Gold Derby odds that were derived from the predictions made by contest entrants like you, challenge beast Joe Anglim was the #1 choice to go home last week with leading 7/5 odds (42% chance). However, it ended up being Stephen and Ciera Eastin who got sent packing during last week’s back-to-back episodes.
Stephen’s strong alliance with Jeremy did earn him another three days in the game, as Jeremy used his hidden idol to save him during the first of two Tribal Councils last week. But since Stephen still went home next, does that mean Jeremy’s big move wasn’t a smart one?
“There were a thousand of other little variables that contributed to that,” admits Stephen. “I think in the moment it was a good move for Jeremy. It kept an ally in the game. It kept his alliance strong. At that point in the game, Jeremy and I thought it was me, him, Kimmi Kappenberg, Tasha Fox and Spencer Bledsoe. There’s so many threats out there trying to take you out, you have to keep your own core strong.”
Also in our chat, Stephen talks about why he was so emotional this season, the endless search for hidden immunity idols, how he would have played his special advantage differently and whether he’d ever go back to “Survivor” for a third time. Scroll down to listen to our complete Q&A.
