Will ‘Game of Thrones’ be secret to success of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘Terminator: Genisys’?

Despite lukewarm reviews for the fifth film in the “Terminator” franchise, there’s a chance it can still be saved … by “Game of Thrones” fans. Might the true star of “Terminator: Genisys” be Khaleesi herself Emilia Clarke, instead of former Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger?

To say the critics are not impressed with “Genisys” is a understatement. At Metacritic, the film has a lowly score of 39, while it sits at a ghastly 26% over on Rotten Tomatoes.

The original 1984, helmed by James Cameron, made Schwarzenegger a household name. He returns to the franchise for the fourth time after missing out on 2009’s misfire “Terminator Salvation.”

But a film is nothing without its leading lady, and Clarke is the perfect choice to bring audiences back to the franchise. The actress, who reaped an Emmy bid in 2013 for playing Daenerys Targaryen on “Game of Thrones,” takes on the iconic role of Sarah Connor. Linda Hamilton played her in the first two movie blockbusters and Clarke’s “GoT” co-star Lena Headey had a go in the short-lived Fox TV series “The Sarah Connor Chronicles.”

Thanks to the worldwide success of “Game of Thrones,” Clarke is one of the hottest stars on the planet right now. But can she save the “Terminator” franchise from extinction?
