Olympians Aly and Steve ‘not surprised’ to be eliminated from ‘The Amazing Race’

While Aly and Steve were axed from “The Amazing Race” on Friday, they remain fans of the show. After reading their takes on the other teams, be sure to make your predictions for the outcome of this week’s episode and you might win a $100 Amazon gift certificate and a place of honor on our leaderboards. It’s fun and easy, so start now by scrolling down and predicting who will be eliminated next.

Only 12% of our users correctly pegged these Olympians as the most likely to be axed at the end of Friday’s second of two episodes. Indeed, many of us were as surprised as they were that they had to deal with both a Speed Bump and a U-Turn. If you got the result right, why are you not taking part in our predictions contest? Do you have what it takes to be the best among the most fervent fans of the “Race”?

Aly reveals that completeing the Speed Bump task of building a toy out of refuse took only “10 to 15 minutes.” While that kept these keen players in with a chance, both of them were expecting to be U-Turned. As Aly admits, “we were not surprised. We actually expected it from the moment we read ‘Caution U-Turn ahead’.” Adds Steve, “we assumed we would be U-Turned. When we ripped open the clue in the morning we knew we might be in trouble.”

Just how close were they to catching up with Rochelle and Mike at the Pit Stop? Steve thinks “we were two hours behind them” while Aly admits, “I tried to erase it from my memory.”

For Aly, “the ‘Race’ was better than I expected. It was a total blast. It challenged us in ways that we never thought I would be challenged.” How so? “I learned how to sing in Bavarian. It was a total rush, that’s for sure. I want to do it again.”

However, admits Steve, “It is really tough to put yourself in that situation and imagine what the race is going to be like unless you are actually running the race.” As he explains, “the logistical part that you barely see on TV was a lot harder than I expected. Just getting around: getting flights, finding cabs, etc. that is really hard and very difficult to prepare for.”

As for the games being played by the other teams, Steve says: “I think everyone is a fan of the ‘Race’ and understands. Contrary to other seasons, everyone this season is young, in-shape, well-traveled so I think going into it most people were more prepared than other seasons.” He reflects, “everyone has their own style just like we had ours and up until the very end it was working for us.”

Adds Aly, “everybody has experienced ups and downs so far in the show and unfortunately our down was detrimental. I think the other teams are really starting to figure it out, especially their strengths and weaknesses. The blind dates are definitely in the Race for the million and not love so I think that changed their tactics and how they go about racing.

And which team they would like to see win the ‘Race’ and the one million dollar prize? Aly reveals “we are pulling for Matt and Ashley.” Do you think they will go all the way? And who do you think will be eliminated next?

Nine of our users got two of the five weekly questions about the second half of last Friday’s doubleheader (the Express Pass question is now out of play).

Of these, Adam Rock broke the tie by racking up the most points. He savvily placed his 500-point superbet on Aly and Steve losing this leg when they had odds of 6/1 and that earned him 3,000 points. If he is eligible, as per our contest rules, he will win a $100 Amazon gift certificate.

The outcome of the first of Friday’s episodes was easier to predict with three of our users nailing four of the five questions.

While the majority of our users knew that it would be a non-elimination leg and that there would not be a U-Turn, Benutty was one of just 12% who predicted that first-place finish for Matt and Ashley.

He broke the tie for first by forecasting that Tyler and Laura would win date night. By putting his 500-point superbet on this pick when they were at 100/1, he racked up a jaw-dropping 50,000 points. If he is eligible, as per our contest rules, he also will win a $100 Amazon gift certificate.

Despite only going 4/10 over last Friday’s two episodes, JasonNolette remains in first place on our season leaderboard with an overall average of 55% correct. Will anyone be able to catch him in the weeks remaining? The overall winner will get bragging rights till the next season of the “Race” and a place of honor on our Gold Derby leaderboard
