“It would be mind-blowing” to win Best Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards, “Transparent” creator/writer/director Jill Soloway confesses on the red carpet of the TV academy’s recent event saluting this year’s nominated producers. “It would be crazy. When we tell Soloway that Jeffrey Tambor is predicted to win the Emmy for Best Actor, she smiles, “I know. I follow Gold Derby every few hours. It’s the only website in the world that’s actually doing real-time Emmy predictions. That’s all I care about.”
Soloway is also up for Best Writing (“Pilot”) and Best Directing (“Best New Girl”) at the Emmys, so she could be a rare triple threat come Sunday. Her favorite section of our website? “The part where it says I’m gonna win the writing award,” Soloway jokes.
When we ask her to tease Season 2 of the breakout Amazon comedy, she reveals that newly crowned Emmy champ Bradley Whitford will return to the show, but that he’ll be playing a new character this time around. She admits, “It’s wild, it’s wacky, it’s crazy. We’re taking huge risks. We’re walking a tightrope. It’s gonna be filled with surprises. It’s gonna be a really emotional season.”
