“AGT” debuted in 2006 and has been a summer staple for NBC for the past decade. Many hosts and judges have come and gone, with current emcee Nick Cannon being joined in Season 11 by Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and new judge Simon Cowell. After being a producer since the show’s outset, Cowell has joined the panel this year for the first time (replacing Howard Stern)
Besides the two ventriloquist victors mentioned above, there have also been a slew of singing champs, a dancer (Kenichi Ebina), a magician (Mat Franco) and even an animal act (Olate Dogs). The eleventh-season auditions begin tonight on NBC. At the Emmy Awards, “AGT” has been nominated twice throughout its run: Best Hairstyling in 2011 and Best Lighting Design in 2014.
