Twelve-year-old singer-songwriter Grace VanderWaal is heavily favored to win this season of “America’s Got Talent” — she has leading 9/10 odds as of this writing — which would make her the show’s sixth singing champ in only 11 years. (See all past winners in the photo gallery above.) However, unlike her predecessors, VanderWaal is unique in that she writes all of her own music. VanderWaal first captivated America with her ukulele and yellow pants at her audition while singing “I Don’t Know My Name.” The song instantly went viral, with dozens of fans creating their own cover versions on YouTube. But just because this song came first doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best, right?

Since VanderWaal was Howie Mandel‘s golden buzzer act, she wasn’t seen again until the live Quarterfinals at the Dolby Theatre, where she sang “Beautiful Thing.” She easily sailed through to the Semifinals, where she performed “Light the Sky.” In this week’s Finals, VanderWaal was the last act of Season 11 to perform and she wowed America with her song about bullies, “Clay.”
