“Right now the time calls for dark men to do dark things,” says Long John Silver (Luke Arnold) in the official trailer for the upcoming fourth and final season of the Starz action-packed pirate drama “Black Sails” (watch above) released at New York Comic Con. The swashbuckling series returns for its 10-episode final outing starting on Sunday, January 29, 2017.
“Black Sails” debuted in January 2014 as a prequel to the Robert Louis Stevenson novel “Treasure Island” and follows the exploits of feared pirate captain Flint (Toby Stephens) 20 years before the events of the classic book. Since then the series has won three Emmys out of eight nominations: Best Supporting Visual Effects (2014) and Best Sound Editing (2014, 2016). That makes it the most awarded original series on the network to date.
Over the course of its run the show has introduced fictionalized versions of real-life pirates including Anne Bonny, Benjamin Hornigold, Jack Rackham, Charles Vane, Ned Low and Blackbeard. And when season four commences our pirates will be at war in the West Indies with New Providence Island under ever increasing threat.
