The Oscar frontrunner for Best Sound Mixing, “Mad Max: Fury Road,” is all but certain to win at the Cinema Audio Society Awards on Saturday. It has odds of 2/7 to prevail at this precuror prize and faces three of its Oscar rivals. Of these “The Revenant” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” have odds of 9/1 each to pull off an upset here while “Bridge of Spies” is at 66/1. The fifth CAS nominee, “The Hateful Eight,” is at 100/1. (At the Oscars, the fifth nominee is “The Martian.”)
We are also predicting that “Inside Out” will win on for animated feature sound mixing over “The Good Dinosaur,” “Hotel Transylvania 2,” “Minions” and “The Peanut Movie.”
On the TV front, the drama winner is predicted to be “Game of Thrones” over ““Better Call Saul,” “Homeland,” “House of Cards” and “The Walking Dead.” The comedy champ is likely to be “Veep” over “Modern Family,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Silcon Valley.” And “American Horror Story: Hotel” is favored to take the movies and miniseries award over “American Crime,” “Fargo” and “True Detective.”
The awards will be presented on Feb. 20 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. The lifetime achievement honor will be given to ADR mixer Doc Kane while Jay Roach will get the filmmaker award.
