‘Dancing with the Stars’ predictions: Rick Perry will get lowest score, but will he be eliminated?

Season 23 of “Dancing with the Stars” begins tonight, September 12, and so far those taking part in our predictions contest aren’t optimistic about Rick Perry. The former Texas governor and presidential candidate is expected to get the lowest score from judges according to our racetrack odds, but luckily for him he likely won’t be going home just yet. We’re not forecasting an elimination in the first week of competition.

But that’s about all the good news there is for Perry. He gets leading 1/4 odds of landing at the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard. The 66-year-old politician is older than most successful “DWTS” participants, and contestants from the political arena haven’t fared well in the past, including journalist/pundits Tucker Carlson (season three) and Geraldo Rivera (season 22), who were both sent home first in their seasons.

Controversial swimmer Ryan Lochte is next with 14/1 odds of getting the low score. He’s an Olympic gold medalist, like four previous Mirror Ball Trophy champs (Apolo Anton Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson and Meryl Davis), but he would be the first swimmer to prevail, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be just as graceful on the dance floor as he is in the water. Also, he may struggle for fan votes if viewers don’t want to forgive him for his drunken antics this summer in Rio de Janeiro, where he claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint, a report that was later revealed to be embellished.

“Brady Bunch” actress Maureen McCormick is next with 25/1 odds. Like Perry, she’s older than any past “DWTS” winner — she’s 60, eight years older than the oldest champ ever, Donny Osmond, who was 52 when he won season nine in 2009. Will she be able to keep up with her younger competitors?

Regardless, all 13 contestants may get a chance to come back in week two. There’s a strong 8/11 chance that no one will be eliminated. If anyone does get the axe it’s likeliest to be Perry with 23/10 odds, then Lochte with 22/1 odds.
