Ellen Pompeo to ABC: I’m not leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ just yet

After a dozen years headlining smash hit “Grey’s Anatomy,” you’d think Ellen Pompeo would want to take a break. But not quite yet. The former Golden Globe nominee (Best Drama Actress, 2007) just inked a one-year deal with ABC to remain at the flagship medical drama for Season 13, due out this fall on the alphabet net. Dish “Grey’s Anatomy” with Hollywood insiders in our notorious forums – click here.

Of the show’s original cast members, only four remain as of last month’s Season 12 finale: Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey and James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber. For a network drama that produces close to 24 hours each season, the episode count is now at a staggering 268 … with no telling how high that number may reach before it finally ends.

“Grey’s Anatomy” burst onto the scene in 2005 as a ratings juggernaut and found equal appreciation from the Emmy Awards. It was nominated twice as Best Drama Series (2006 and 2007) and has won four Emmys throughout its run: Best Drama Casting (2006), Best Supporting Actress for Katherine Heigl (2007), Best Non-Prosthetic Makeup (2010) and Best Guest Actress for Loretta Devine (2011). Despite my very public pleas, neither Sandra Oh nor Sara Ramirez ever won for their roles on the show.
