Having trouble narrowing down this year’s crop of Emmy contenders to the six that’ll earn Best Comedy Actor nominations? Well, look no further than last year’s Top 24 Users, the two-dozen contest entrants who did the best predicting 2015’s Emmy nominations. They are now showcased in a league to forecast who will earn nominations on July 14. Scroll down to see their picks for Best Comedy Actor and then make your own using our easy drag-and-drop menu at the bottom of this post.
1. Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent“) – 3/1 odds to earn nomination
After six failed Emmy bids for “Arrested Development” and “The Larry Sanders Show,” Tambor finally struck gold last year for playing transgender father Maura Pfefferman. After winning back-to-back Critics’ Choice Awards as well as the SAG trophy, our Top 24 Users now give Tambor the best odds to also repeat at the Emmys.
2. Aziz Ansari (“Master of None“) – 9/2 odds to earn nomination
Despite working steadily on television over the past decade, Ansari has never earned an Emmy nomination … until now, say our Top 24. He should get extra credit for not just starring in “Master of None,” but also co-creating, writing and directing the Netflix project.
3. William H. Macy (“Shameless“) – 5/1 odds to earn nomination
This two-time Emmy champ for acting and writing “Door to Door” (2003) has been nominated twice for the Showtime dramedy “Shameless,” but has yet to win despite winning the 2014 SAG Award for his role as drunk father Frank Gallagher. Can he take down the two frontrunners?
4. Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish“) – 6/1 odds to earn nomination
Last year, many of our awards pundits were shocked by Anderson’s nomination for the ABC family comedy. But now that he’s on Emmy’s radar, our Top 24 Users think it’s more than likely that Anderson will hear his name called again on nominations morning.
5. Will Forte (“The Last Man on Earth“) – 7/1 odds to earn nomination
Never count out Forte. He earned two nominations last year for both writing and starring in Fox’s “The Last Man on Earth,” in addition to bids for guesting on “30 Rock” (2013) and writing “Late Show with David Letterman” (1998). Plus, Forte is one of the few contenders who legitimately brings the laughs each and every week.
6. Don Cheadle (“House of Lies“) – 20/1 odds to earn nomination
Rounding out their list is Cheadle, who’s coming off his fourth consecutive nomination for this Showtime comedy. Cheadle is a bonafide star with prior Emmy nominations for “A Lesson Before Dying” (1999), “The Rat Pack” (1999), “Things Behind the Sun” (2002) and “E.R.” (2003), however, he’s never won.
